On September 29, the International Day of Awareness on Food Losses and Waste, our social partner in Lithuania, “Maisto bankas,” presented our company with an award for being the largest financial supporter of their food aid activities. We are honored to receive this recognition and remain committed to supporting their efforts to provide food aid to those in need.
The International Day for Awareness on Food Loss and Waste is an opportunity for both the public and private sectors to prioritize and innovate towards reducing food losses and waste. Globally, around 14 percent of food produced is lost from harvest to retail, with estimates showing that 17 percent of all global food production is lost and wasted (11 percent in households, 5 percent in food service establishments, and 2 percent in retail).
Furthermore, the noble goal of Maisto Bankas is not only to help those in need of food but also to save many food products from waste. Last year alone, “Maisto bankas” collected and distributed 9,000 tons of food to those in need, which is a significant achievement towards creating a more sustainable and equitable world.
