Pulsar Optics team took part in the exciting Dragon Boats competition

On the 1st of July Pulsar Optics team took part in one of the most spectacular events in Daugavpils – International Dragon Boats Festival. Pulsar team, which included 21 people, participated in this festival for the first time and took 6th place in their Amateur MIX category. The joyful atmosphere of this truly enjoyable summer event was supported by a crowd of spectators, including Pulsar fans.

The International Dragon Boats Festival on the lake Lielais Stropu in Daugavpils was held for the fifth time. The festival, which was an all-day event, was attended by 500 people from all over Latvia and Lithuania. The teams competed in 5 categories. The teams of children up to 14 years old also had their own category. The winners of the children’s category were also awarded with gifts from Yukon.

Famous Latvian rowers came to congratulate the participants, as well as Lithuanian Olympic champion Eugenijus Šuklinas. Daugavpils is the only city in Latvia where these colourful competitions are held.

Dragon boat racing has its roots in an ancient folk ritual of competition that originated 2000 years ago in southern China. It is also believed that this contest may have been part of the ancient Greek Olympic Games.
