Experience at Yukon Group: one year
Location: Vilnius, Lithuania
Seniority: Junior Software Developer
“For me it is important that the results of my work would be materially realized and tangible. This is the reason why I chose to work with embedded systems. It is something that is between software and “metal” and gives life to all electronics. Working at Yukon allows me to use my knowledge gained in studies practically. In my work, I contribute to the most advanced projects in the improvement of thermal imaging and digital vision devices as well as its’ software”, – says Yukon’s Junior Software Developer, Aurijus Vaitiškis, who joined the RnD team, after successful practice.
We invited Aurijus for a short interview to learn more about his professional journey from practice to employment and find out what has most prompted him to become a part of the Yukon team.
Cherished not only the interest at work, but also the atmosphere in the team
Aurijus is currently studying information systems engineering at Vilnius Tech University. The first time he heard the name of the Yukon company was when he began to look for a practice place in the summer. “The main goal of my practice was that I wanted to gain more experience in programming and installing the systems created into the equipment.” One of my lecturers mentioned Yukon as the company where practice could be done.
Having successfully overcome the interview stage, Aurijus joined the RnD department of the Yukon. From the very first days, he felt the supportive environment. “I did not feel like an outsider thrown into unknown waters, and such a scenario was certainly possible due to the specifics of the work. From the very beginning, everything went really well and I quickly integrated”, – says Aurijus. He also summarizes that the first impression of the team confirmed and got better and better: “About a month later, the idea came to me that even after a period of practice, I would like to continue my career at Yukon.”
During the internship, Aurijus specialized in the specifics of the work of RnD, and also worked on smaller projects. However, this did not prevent him from achieving real work results. “I wanted to prove to myself and the team that I can and want to learn and improve my skills in this area. I think I was able to achieve it, because after the internship, I got an offer to stay and combine work with studies”, – he says.
Opportunity to connect theory with practice
At present Aurijus is mainly working on testing various hardware subsystems and is willing to gather experience in this field for some time before moving on to bigger projects. For now, Aurijus has to combine work with studies of the last course. He is working on his bachelor’s thesis too. Young employee works on a flexible work schedule.
“I’m also going to associate my bachelor’s thesis with my work specification at Yukon. I have received support for this idea, so I have hope that I will be able to do everything as planned. So far, the most important keywords in my scientific work are: artificial intelligence, automation and, of course, embedded systems”, – explains Aurijus.
